March saw us back in Wales, at a lovely hut called Blaen-y-Nant at the foot of Llyn Crafnant, Snowdonia.
Friday 22nd March
The early crowd, Andy, Kent, Simon and Alan M all went for a 9½ mile walk around the three lakes in the area, Llyn Crafnant, Llyn Geirionydd and Llyn Bychan. Dan and Gill arrived later on and walked up to the top of Crimpiau in the pouring rain, then down to the lake and back to make up miles for Gill’s daily goal. Everyone else arrived at various times during the evening.
Saturday 23rd March
Most of us all walked over to Capel Curig and on up the ridge trail to Moel Siabod, scrambling up the ridge to the summit and back down the path to Plas-y-Brenin for coffee and cake. A satisfying 14 mile day in great weather with beautiful views from the top! Shane did a 45K run across most of the high Snowdonia peaks, including the Carnedds and the Glyders, finishing with the classic jumping photo on the cantilever stone – I’d love to know the total day’s ascent Shane? Hashtag ‘Everest Anywhere’ 😉 Adam and Raj hiked up Moel Ellio with its bothy, and then Carnedd Creigiau.
Sunday 24th March
Dan and Gill went to look for Dulyn Bothy, what a great place to spend the night if ever you have time. We had fantastic views across the whole valley throughout the hike. Shane and Adam did Moel Siabod from the hut, the same route we did on Saturday, Shane ran back. Graham hiked up Crimpiau and then went clockwise around the ridges, dropped down into the forest and waded down a stream eventually finding his way back to the hut. Juan and Indy started at the car park for the Dulyn Bothy walk and went up to Carnedd Llewellyn.
A fantastic weekend, we all really enjoyed it!
