A few suggestions for camp sites for any weekend trips:
Eric Byne’s Memorial Campsite – You can see this site from the top of Birchen edge, parking is next to the Robin Hood, follow the A619 West for 200m and you’ll see a sign going through the farm, it’s a 20 minute walk so pack light. You can’t book in advance but there’s always room for one more tent. Camp fee’s of £3 per person (2011 rate) are collected at some horrendous hour of the morning. Definitely not a luxury site; toilet and cold water is all you get. The Robin Hood serves food but their cooking times vary throughout the year, driving West will give a number of options.
