New wall at last

With a new wall now open in Northampton and one about to open, Milton Keynes is looking like a more appealing place for a climber to live.

Ok, we are still miles from the outdoor stuff but, there isn’t a lot we can do about that (unless there a strange geological anomaly arises in the near future, but hey, I think we would then have a lot more to think about than climbing). At least now we have 2 good indoor venues close by.

Quite a few members have been climbing regularly at The Pinnacle in Northampton (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and are thoroughly enjoying it. There are a good range of grades with leading opportunities for all abilities. There is also the opportunity to try the over hangs, even if you aren’t a top end grade 6 climber or above (i.e. a mere mortal like most of us).

The new wall over at Kingston, Big Rock is now due to open on 5th October. We had a preview last week and it is going to be well worth the wait. The bouldering section did look a little intimidating, especially without the mats down but I’m sure once hands touch rock all concerns will evaporate. There are some interesting shapes and designs and the lead wall looks a good height with the added depth of the pit. There is going to be a separate area where groups, beginners, childrens’ party groups will climb so saving the lead wall area for those who can climb.

Having sampled the Malteser biscuit at The Pinnacle, we will be waiting with baited breath to see what culinary delights Big Rock will produce and of course to get on the wall to crush some routes.
