• Quarries

Having purchased a bargain of a guide book at the Outdoor Show. Alan set out to explore the yet unexplored (for a group of MKMC climbers) world of sport climbing in the quarries of the Peaks. Inspired by the name of the guide book we headed up to Horseshoe Quarries where we found some tross, some nice climbs, some Blue John and some great fossil corals (species identification came courtesy of Matt.)

Having decided that the title of the guide was a good place to start, the following weekend found us at Harpur Hill (You can probably work out the Guide books title now.) Here there was some superb climbing to be found, and yes, we did eventually find the way in.

Now we will have to have a look to see which other quarries are in the book, even if they are not in the title.

Matt is hoping the limestone will be good practice for his trip to Mallorca which we hope to hear about upon his return.

The rest of us are simply enjoying the sport climbing (and maybe dreaming slightly of Spain!)

I think some of the corals were Rugosa for those who were wondering. Ask Matt about the others!
