04 January – Rosie’s Walk – Stony Stratford Circular Walk – 12 Miles
Rosie’s (the Spaniel) first local walk of 2026 was to lead ten members (and friend) of the MKMC around the fields to the North of Milton Keynes starting from Stony Stratford.
On a cold but sunny morning the group set off from Stony Stratford Nature Reserve car park and walked into the Ouse Valley Park towards the Grand Union Canal and the Flood Plain Forest Nature Reserve. At this point four members decided to take the shorter option and split off to a circular walk around the reserve and return to the car park.
The rest continued to follow various footpaths north through Castlethorpe and beyond, finally crossing the Grafton Regis Meadows to reach the path beside the Grand Union Canal near the village of Grafton Regis. This was followed south back to Cosgrove, then transversed the lock gates to pick up the footpath to Wolverton Mill before returning to Stony Stratford Nature Reserve & the car park.
Lots of wildlife seen along the way including a Kingfisher but alias no Otters this time.
Thanks to all those that attended.
Great trip and some quality climbs. And some extensive abseil practise!
