On Friday morning we packed 2 cars full of people and gear and dashed up to the Outside.co.uk cafe in Hathersage for a nice lunch. After we had purchased the majority of the stock from the shop, we drove over to Horseshoe Quarry to squeeze in some afternoon climbing whilst the weather held.

This trip took place at The Robertson Lamb hut run by the Wayfarers Club. A nice hut with a good kitchen and lounge with several dorms, most of which are recently updated, conveniently placed at the head of Langdale.

Ten of us participated in the February weekend trip to my favourite hut in North Yorkshire, Lowstern, near Ingleton. Some of us went up on the Thursday evening so we had the benefit of an extra day.

On Friday morning Andy, Dan and Kent drove over to the Howgills and did a circular hike from Sedbergh via Cautley Spout. They didn’t have the best views, it was a foggy day. The Howgills are a new area for the club and I hadn’t really considered them. There really is so
much to do within reach of this hut.

Our annual Burns trip had a special poignancy this year; it was the memorial meet to our friend and long standing club member Alan M who, together with his wife, organised our first ever Burns Supper on a January meet many years ago.  We’d booked Caseg Fraith in the Ogwen Valley hoping to fill the hut, and enjoy a weekend in the snow.  All was looking promising, but with a few days to go the temperature rose and rain appeared.  Would that stop us enjoying ourselves ? ?  Continue reading →
